On 11 February, the International Day of Girls and Women in Science is celebrated worldwide. According to the European Commission, women still need to be represented in higher academic and decision-making positions, occupying only 26% of top academic roles.
This year, the MEEP project joined Barcelona Supercomputing Center to promote the importance of girls and women in science. Concretely, our scientists, Francelly Cano and Noelia Oliete received some students in the centre and took this opportunity to inspired the next generation of women in science and technology by explaining their work in the MEEP project and answering the students' questions within the framework of #weareresearchers (#somosinvestigadoras).
This day is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls and to support girls and women in their educational and professional pursuits in the sciences. Today, we remind together that gender equality and empowering women and girls are essential for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
