The MEEP project is drawing some attention in Europe and beyond due to its vision & objectives, the potential to extend RISC-V technology, and its aim to collaborate in achieving EuroHPC JU’s effort to develop a World Class Supercomputing Ecosystem in Europe.
The project has been featured on bit magazine (issue 219, April 2021) as part of an effort to lead Exascale computing in Europe. The article provides a high-level perspective on supercomputing, Spanish research, and how the MEEP project will become an experimental platform that will evaluate and improve computing architecture at the hardware level and be positioned as a digital laboratory for software and hardware development for HPC that will impact industries and academic sectors. Moreover, Semiconductor Engineering developed an article about how open-source architecture is gaining traction in HPC where MEEP was featured as an example of work happening in the RISC-V HPC space. After an overall outlook about the RISC-V open architecture in more complex designs provided by several key players, the author concluded that open-source ISA is widening and that the world of design will be watching closely how the RISC-V technology will perform in case studies in high-performance applications.
